Chiusi
Modern Chiusi rises where Lucumonia, the old capital of Etruria, was: a visit there is a must. In fact, Chiusi is a very famous archeological centre: the Etruscan town had its largest expansion between the 7th and the 5th century b.C., then it fell under the Roman power. In 765 it became a Lombard Duchy. Later it decayed because of the process of swamping and the diffusion of malaria in the territory. Over the centuries Chiusi went under the power of Orvieto and Siena. For a period it was a free city-state, but it went again under the control of Siena. In 1556 it got part of the Duchy of Florence.
